The business licensing is usually low-cost. Most wholesalers in the US will require a “Sales Tax ID” or “Resale Certificate”, before you get an account with them.
It’s a good idea that you get the licensing required in your state to avoid complications, and to protect yourself. There are usually local state business information centers that provide the necessary information. To help you get started, we have included a relevant website link for each state.

  • File a DBA (Doing Business under an Assumed name), or a Corporation.
  • If required in your state, file for a local business license. Many states do not require it.
  • Contact your state IRS office and file for a “Sales Tax ID” or “Resale Certificate,” which most suppliers require if they are not charging you sales tax on the products you purchase for resell.
